Our zoom gears for the C2080, C2090, C5100 and C8000 all now use the 0.8 mod cinema standard gearing for ultra smooth results.
The 0.8 mod cinema standard gearing is physically designed to provide exceptionally smooth and precise control over lens functions like zoom and focus. The “0.8 mod” refers to the pitch of the gear teeth—how far apart they are—offering a fine and consistent engagement between the gear teeth and the drive mechanism (such as a follow focus or motorized control).
This finer tooth spacing reduces backlash (play or slack between gears), which is crucial for achieving responsive and smooth movement. The gears mesh more evenly, allowing for gradual, continuous adjustments instead of jerky or stepped motion. This is especially important during slow zooms or precise focus pulls, where visual smoothness is key.
The standard also supports a larger gear diameter, which spreads the motion across more teeth at once. This mechanical advantage helps reduce hand fatigue and allows for more nuanced control, whether operated manually or by motor.
