Liquid Eye Water Housings have always been designed with one main purpose in mind: to perform in the toughest ocean conditions. Heavy surf, strong currents, fast action – that’s where our systems have earned their reputation.

But as more photographers and filmmakers started taking their Liquid Eye setups beneath the surface, we saw an opportunity to expand what our housings could do.

With the release of the new C2080 and C2090 housings for Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Panasonic, we’ve taken a big step forward. These models are now officially rated to 30m / 98ft when used with small dome and regular LP flat ports. That means Liquid Eye is no longer just the ultimate tool for surf and surface work – it’s now a serious option for free divers and scuba divers as well.

To support that new direction, we’ve developed a range of diving-focused accessories. In this , Part 1, let’s first introduce our Rapid Weight Mounting System. A simple but well thought out upgrade, it can make a huge difference to the way your housing performs and how confident you feel using it underwater.

Rapid Weight Mounting System – Perfect Balance, Zero Hassle

Anyone who has tried to dive with a surf orientated camera housing knows the struggle: buoyancy. Traditionally, ‘surf’ housings are at least somewhat naturally buoyant. As the focus is on being streamlined and light; with a design that can swim in and take the impact of big waves and occasionally even bigger wipe-outs. Dive housings on the other hand are traditionally larger and more clunky. With a different focus they are not designed for swimming in difficult wave conditions or taking the force of a wave on them

That positive buoyancy can be great from a safety perspective and for providing some reprieve on swims in heavy swells, but not so great when you’re trying to swim down with a subject or hold a steady position underwater. Constantly fighting a floating camera rig quickly turns a fun dive into a workout, both on your lungs and on your arms.

So now that we have developed our hybrid C2080 and C2090 water housings. That can not only perform as mentioned above, but can also withstand the pressures found 30m down. We created our new Rapid Weight Mounting System to fix that problem in the cleanest, easiest way possible.

Instead of messy DIY solutions or awkward add-ons, this system lets you quickly attach standard diving weights directly to your Liquid Eye housing. The design is secure, streamlined, and fully modular – so you can add or remove weight in seconds.

This matters because every setup is different:

  • All port systems contribute to different amounts of ‘air in the system’
  • Different lenses mean different weights.
  • Even camera models affect overall buoyancy

With the Rapid Weight Mounting System, you can fine-tune your rig until it’s as close to neutrally buoyant as possible.

The benefits are immediate:

  • Freediving with your camera becomes far easier and more natural
  • Scuba divers can hover comfortably without fighting the housing
  • Video shooters get smoother, more stable footage
  • Photographers can focus on composition instead of holding their rig down

In short – the better balanced your housing is, the better your underwater experience will be.
And now, getting that balance right is faster and simpler than ever.

Our system can be put on the housing in less than a minute and uses the same fully threaded M5X16mm Hex Bolts that the pistol grip and side grips use. Same bolts mean the same tool and less fuss. Go from shooting surf with your pistol grip one moment, to freediving with a neutrally buoyant hosing the next. Our C2080 and C2090 housings open up a new world of possibilities with a water housing that is not only great to swim with, it is also vastly preferable to travel with.

Expanding What Liquid Eye Can Do

For years, Liquid Eye has been known as the go-to housing for serious surf photographers and filmmakers – built tough, reliable, and designed for demanding conditions on the surface.
With the new depth rating of the C2080 and C2090 housings, and accessories like these, we’re expanding that reputation.

Now our systems aren’t just the best option for waves, strong currents, and surface action – they’re also a genuinely powerful and practical solution for divers.

The Rapid Weight Mounting System makes the housing feel natural and effortless underwater.
The Vacuum Pump System protects your gear and gives you total confidence before every dive.
Together, they transform the way a Liquid Eye housing performs below the surface.

We have several other diving accessories in development and already available. There are new lighting options to illuminate the depths and bring it to your viewers in full colour and side grip options and accessories to enhance ergonomics and improve real world use.

At Liquid Eye, everything we design is driven by this. Real-world use. Our goal is simple: create equipment that lets you focus on shooting, not on fighting your gear.

Whether you’re swimming under serious waves or descending onto a reef, these new accessories help make that possible.

Stay tuned for part 2 of our blog where we dive deep into the new vacuum system we have developed.
